July 16, 2021
With our drone Phoenix we won the Most Promising award in the UAS Challenge 2021. Due to Covid-19 we had to participate in the online category, where the drone was judged from a design and engineering perspective. We are proud to announce that we have won the Most Promising award out of more than 20 teams participating in the Virtual Event.
This means our team showed the most ingenuity, teamwork, resilience in the face of adversity, and a promising design for next year’s competition despite not being able to attend the live event.
The UAS Challenge
The UAS Challenge is a humanitarian drone competition where the idea is to help people in case of disasters. The mission is to autonomously deliver a package to a defined location.
The first half of the 2021 UAS Challenge took place virtually in order to give all teams the chance to benchmark and get feedback on their work, no matter where they are located and how much of their UAS they were practically able to build.
Over the past few months, DroneTeam was gearing up for the Live Event of the UAS Challenge this July. Unfortunately, we found the current COVID-19 regulations would make the trip unfeasible for our team and we have decided not to attend, meaning that we were not eligble for the grand prize. However, we are still proud to have finished first out of more than twenty online participating teams.
